Kvasny Prumysl publishes results of basic and applied research and practice from the sphere of agricultural biotechnology and associated spheres (chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering, microbiology, physiology, technology, engineering, economy and history etc).
1 Manuscript
The manuscripts are submitted in an electronic form. All submissions must include a cover letter with the statement that the paper has not been previously published elsewhere. The Board of Editors decides on the submission of the contribution for consideration in the review process or its rejection within 30 days.
1.1 Contributions not subjecting to the review process
The non-reviewed contributions include reports from congresses, information of expert commissions, reviews of professional publication, news, topical interesting news, interviews and coverage, notices of professional organizations, company’ s announcements. Parameters of the non-reviewed contributions (range, picture documentation, etc. are agreed by the editor with authors individually).
Based on the author’s requirement, the non-reviewed contributions can be presented in Czech or Slovak-English mutation. The author bears all financial costs connected with translations into English. The Editor can ensure services of a professional translator at request.
1.2 Contributions subjecting to the review process
Types of contributions
Kvasny Prumysl publishes original articles, short communications, review articles, and short review communications. The reviewed articles (with the exception of articles with historical topics) are published in English or bilingually In Czech and English or Slovak and English languages.
The reviewed articles from history are published in Czech or Slovak language with the title, abstract and key words in English. The reviewed articles on history can also be published only in English or bilingually in English-Czech or English-Slovak languages.
1.2.1 Original articles
Original articles present results of the authors’ research and should not exceed 15 manuscript pages (21.600 characters including spaces) of the text, list of literature, figures and tables before translation. A more extensive text should be recommended to split into more parts.
1.2.2 Short communications
Short communication relates to the authors’ own observations from industrial or laboratory practice. The maximal range of the short communication before translation is 8 manuscript pages (14.400 characters including spaces) of the text, figures, tables and list of literature.
1.2.3 Review articles
Review articles summarize current knowledge on a given issue. The maximal scope of the review article is 20 manuscript pages (36.000 characters including spaces).
1.2.4 Short review communications
This communication informs on very actual news from the given scientific area. The maximal range of this review communication before translation is 4 manuscript pages (7.200 characters including spaces) of the text, figures, tables and list of literature.
2 General instructions
2.1 Abbreviations and symbols used in the paper must be explained when they first appear in the text. The units used must be in compliance with the valid SI units.
2.2 The authors are required to maintain the uniform layout of their papers (the same graphical symbols, and the same description of figure and table descriptions).
2.3 Publications referred to in the text shall be cited in full wording in the list of the literature. (For details see 4.10 Literature).
2.4 References to tables and figures (graphs, images, photographs, diagrams) are referred to in the relevant parts of the text (Obr. 1/Fig. 1), (Tab. 3/Table 3). Figures and tables are numbered with Arabic numerals. Photographs should be submitted in electronic format (jpg, gif, tif). Submission of other formats or originals of photos should be consulted with the editor. Pictures should be submitted in non-compressed form in sufficient resolution (at least 300 dpi). Tables, charts and figures shall be modified by authors so that their form was uniform. Tables should be simple, with an explanatory legend. Tables and figures (charts) should not provide duplicate information. Figures are submitted in black and white version using variously interrupted lines (dot-and dash, dash, …), lines with symbols (squares, triangles, circlets, ...) and using shadows of grey or different filling (use of colors must be approved by the editor in advance). Sources of photos must be given. In case a photo or picture come from other literary sources or the internet, author’s or copyright owner’s consent is necessary. Figures created in EXCEL must be submitted saved in this program.
2.5 Recommended format of a page in Word editor (version must be specified): Standard size of paper (A4 format), type size 12 font, font type Times New Roman, double-space lines, 2.5 cm margins on each edge of the page.
2.6 The decimal system is used for numbering chapters and subchapters. Numbering should be done manually; automatic numbering with a text editor can lead to undesirable changes while converting the text.
2.7 Preset templates should not be used.
3 Text layout
3.1 Title, abstract and key words are always published in English or bilingually in English-Czech or English-Slovak languages in reviewed articles about history or reviewed articles written bilingually in English-Czech or English-Slovak languages.
3.2 The final version of the manuscript should be organized in the following sections:
- Title in English language (in bold, up to 90 characters including spaces, capital letters used in compliance with the English grammar rules).
- Title in Czech or Slovak languages (in bold, up to 90 characters including spaces), only in case of reviewed articles from history or in case of reviewed articled written billingually in English-Czech or English-Slovak languages.
- Names of all authors (name SURNAME), with upper indexes in case authors come from different institutions.
- institution names and addresses in English in case of reviewed articles from history or in case of reviewed articled written billingually in English-Czech or English-Slovak languages.
- Corresponding author’s e-mail address.
- English abstract (up to 800 characters including spaces).
- Czech abstract (up to 800 characters including spaces) , only in case of reviewed articles from history or in case of reviewed articled written billingually in English-Czech or English-Slovak languages.
- Key words in English (usually 3–5).
- English version of the manuscript.
- Literature.
4 More detailed information to the text layout
4.1 Title should not contain abbreviations and surplus words (assessment, study, descriptions, brief results, preliminary information etc.).
4.2 Authors (name and surname, work place address and e-mail address are given). In case of the collective of authors, co-authors shall identify a corresponding author who represents the author collective towards the Editor.
4.3 Abstract shall be clear and comprehensible and must contain the objective, methods, material results and conclusions. No abbreviations should be used. No citations are given in the abstract.
4.4 Key words characterize the content of the contribution.
4.5 Introduction contains a description of the problem and a brief survey of the literature on the subject. It proceeds from general to specific information and brings replies to questions: What is the topic of the manuscript? What has already been published? What were the main objectives of the research? What important and interesting facts does the article bring (generally)? Each specific statement is followed by the reference to literature. The introductory section should include pertinent literature citations evidencing the state of current knowledge. Aims and hypotheses are outlined at the end of the introduction.
4.6 Material and methods give answer to the question: What was done? How was the problem studied? This part of the manuscript gives a sufficient amount of information allowing reproduction of experiments. Material used is exactly defined (kinds, varieties, chemicals, methods of measurement and evaluation, number of repeating, statistical methods employed, programs, characteristics of the experimental location, course of weather). The literature relating to the method applied including statistical methods is given; a type and manufacturer of instruments are specified.
4.7 Results and discussion provide answers to questions: What was found? What do the achieved results mean? Major results from experiments and monitoring are summarized. Differences or compliance can be discussed only if the results are statistically evaluated. In statistically non significant results, authors can write only about tendency, similarity etc. Discussion should explain the importance or reasons of differences between the results described in the manuscript and those obtained by other authors. The authors should interpret their results in the light of other published results, emphasizing their contribution to the topic of the paper. Possibilities of error and circumstances that may affect validity of the achieved results are mentioned
4.8 Conclusion summarizes results in a condensed form referring to so far unsolved issues.
4.9 Acknowledgement includes For example persons (work places) who are not included within the authors and who participated in project realization and sponsors who financially supported the project solved. The number of grant and grant agency providing finance support are given. Acknowledgement is given at the end of the text before the section literature.
4.10 References
- Literature contains an alphabetical list of all references to literature cited in the study.
- Non-available literature sources cannot be cited (e.g. various research reports, unavailable proceedings from conferences, bachelor and master theses unavailable on the internet etc.).
- ISBN shall be given where appropriate.
- Journals should be abbreviated according to the rules used in Chemical Abstracts Source Index – http://cassi.cas.org/search.jsp (journals often cited in the above specified fields of interest including abbreviations can be found on the Kvasný průmysl journal’s website).
- Publications referred to in the text are cited in the list of literature in full wording. References in the text are referred to as follows: one author – (Troi, 1992); two authors – Crusher and Yar; more than two authors – (Picard et al., 1993).
- If the author presents several references at once, they are separated from each other by a semicolon: (Troy, 1992; Crusher and Yar, 1993).
