Quality of malts produced from malting and winter barley and the effect of previous crop.Peer-reviewed article

A. DOLEŽALOVÁ, M. HLAVINKOVÁ

The cultivation of a spring barley is in a stagnation and is replaced by a winter barley. The reasons are in an economy - mainly yield. Czechoslovak varieties of barley comprises no variety of a winter barley. For our cultivators it means a definite risk due to a damage of plants during the winter. The experiments with high - yield varities of a winter barley showed a worsen barley quality in comparison with the results obtained with a spring barley. Especially the values of extract are below the mean value. The effect of prestable on the quality is significant. The results of many experiments show that the better quality and higher yields are achieved with a malting barley after a classic prestable - hoed crop. The results were obtained from experiments performed during six years. For an evaluation the distribution analysis from three times repeated grading was used.
