Instead of conventional analytic methods used for calculating the thermal efficiency of various types of malt kilns the author suggests application of a diagram elaborated by Ramzin-Molliér for humid air. By using this diagram it is possible to calculate conveniently the amount of air and heat necessary to remove from green malt any given quantity of moisture. The figures are indicated for100 kgof dry malt at various temperatures and relative humidity of outgoing air. The article deals further with the results of comparison tests between malt dried in a steam type double-floor kiln without turning the malt on the upper floor and malt dried in a conventional kiln with indirect coal firing and turning in the upper floor.
