The article deals with the methods employed for selecting barley varieties suitable for malting and with the system of classification reflecting their malting properties. The results of analyses made in 1961 confirm, that the best variety of barley frown inCzechoslovakiais "Valtický", though the quality of other popular varieties is also very high. Average figures demonstrate, that Czechoslovak brewing barley is in every respect superior to any foreign product.
