The authors describe practical application of a serological precipitation method based on a two-stage diffusion in agar-agar gel for ascertaining the differences between culture and wild yeasts. Some specific features characterizing various strains of Saccharomyces carlsbergensis in sensu strict as well as strains of stems fermenting both maltose and saccharose are discussed in detail. The suggested method can be further perfected by employing sera saturated with affine sorts.
