The article deals with some new varieties of spring barley which have recently been developed in some European contries as the result of intensive selecting activity aimed at introducing more productive varieties of brewing barley. The Research Institute of Cereals at Kroměříž has carried out a series of comparison tests, evaluating the malting properties of new foreign varieties as well as of new foreign varieties as well as of traditional Czechoslovak ones. The results confirm that Czechoslovak varieties are still in every respect superior to all spring verieties grown inEurope.
