Effect of gibberellic acid on the germination of barley.Peer-reviewed article

V. KAREL

The article deals with the results of experimental research works on the effect of gibberellic acid upon the shares of simple saccharides and polyphenol substances in the malt extract. The analyses failed to show any difference in the composition of tannins present in the GA eluates, which could effect the quality of the product. The proportion of polyphenol substances in the mash obtained through decoction mashing was higher. These polyphenols are adsorbed by nylon 66 and their presence is shown in hydrolisis with HCl by red colouring. The best results were obtained with spraying barley in the very first stage of germination with a solution of GA3. The dosis should be 0,030 mg of CA3 per1 kg of barley, and the concentration of solution 0,3 mg %.
