New varieties of brewing barley grown in Europe.Peer-reviewed article

The present situation in the production of brewing barley is characterized both inEuropeand averseas by steadily increasing areas and higher crops per hectar this being due to the increasing percentage of new varieties resistant to lodging. The article deals with the genealogy of new European varieties. Contrary to many West European varieties the Czechoslovak varieties are the result of recombination based on traditional varieties grown inCentral Europeand preserve their outstanding properties. They are excellent for malting and accomodate themselves to various ecological conditions.
