In a series of proving tests carried out a production scale the authors have shown that unmalted barley can be crushed together with malt Current malt wet crushers can be used, as also existing storage facilities and handling equipment. The method has many advantages, since it reduces or even eliminates several negative consequences resulting from substitution of a certain part of malt with unmalted barley, as e.g. slower straining, some deterioration of organoleptic properties of final product etc. New technology requires no special single-purpose plants or machines, since current, general -purpose equipment will do quite well.
