Spring barley cannot assimilate high rates of nitrogenous fertilizers, which cause lodging and deteriorate the quality of corn. Spring barley grown for malting should be given only reduced amount of nitrogenous fertilizers, as specified for individual barley varieties in agronomic instructions. Only a strict adherence to prescribed agronomic methods, taking into account specific requirements of different varieties, and correct regional assignment can create favourable conditions for high yields of quality spring barley for brewing industry.
