The workers of the RaD department of Polmos distillery at Konin in Polandhave designed and built - after comprehensive research works and experiments - an automatic system for controlling alcohol distillation and rectification processes. As a new invention the system has been already patented. The article deals with the principles of the system and functions of individual measuring instruments and regulating devices. Automation brings many advantages some of which are measurable and can be expressed by economic indices. To this group belong: 22 % increase of yield per 1 m2 of the rectification column section area, quick return of capital investments roughly within one year, reduction of energy consumption by 10-20 % and lower labour costs, since one worker can control several installations. Non-measurable effects are also important: improved safety in works, elimination of tire some hand control, unification of technologic processes and higher, stable quality of final product.
