The removal of cellular and solid materials from fermentation broths is of importance in many fermentation processes. Polyelectrolyte flocculation additives have been found superior to the traditionally used inorganic salts. The paper brings a short survey on the different types of polyelectrolyte flocculating additives and deals with criteria for the choice of flocculating additives appropriate for using in the fermentation industry.
