The cells of Candida boidinii 2 have a high level of alcohol oxidase and catalase in peroxisomes during the growth in presence of methanol. After the cells are transferred into the medium with mannose or with a mixture of methanol-mannose the catabolic repression of the synthesis and the catabolic inactivation of both the peroxisomal enzymes start to affect. The autophage manner of peroxisome degradation has been proved by the ultrastructure study. On the other hand, with xylose-methanol mixture no repression as well as no inactivation of the enzymes occurred. Xylose and methanol are simultaneously utilized, no diauxie occurs and overall growth yield is additive.
