The Malting Institute was established in 1920, its head became V. V. Zila. The Czechoslovak government wanted to maintain positions of the malting industry on world markets and for this reason it supported the establishment of a new professional institution. The Institute was well-equipped for its time. The main activity of the company has been control of the quality of malt and barley grains. In addition, a pilot-plant malthouse was built. V. V. Žila organized the Moravian Malting School and Malting and Brewing Congresses. The Institute also operated during the period of the occupation. After the war, the Institute became financially independent; at that time it had about 20 employees and processed annually more than 1000 malt samples. Moving to smaller compounds in Mostecká Street in 1951 damaged the Institute greatly. The Malting Institute was incorporated into the new Research Institute of Brewing and Malting, in its scope it has been involved in the research of barley and malt. In 1970, the micromalting plant Seeger was purchased and the laboratory instrumentation was gradually upgraded. The Institute is thus able to provide quality and fast information to the malting industry.
