Bulk transport of beer in truck tanks and its productivity.Peer-reviewed article
J. TOBIÁŠ, M. KRACÍK
Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(4): 73-75 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964011
The author compares conventional methods of delivering beer from breweries to customers with modern ones based on bulk system and truck tanks. Application of truck tanks has many economical advantages and contributes to higher labour productivity. At present the bulk system is employd to supply with beer one of the biggestPraguerestaurants the results being in every respect very favourable. With increasing distances to be covered between the brewery and customer the savings and advantages will be more marked.(In Czech, English summary only)
Checking detergent solutions.Peer-reviewed article
G. HERLÍKOVÁ-BASAŘOVÁ
Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(4): 76-78 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964012
The article deals with the application of titration to the determination of percentage of components present in solutions containing detergents (Alkon A) and NaOH. The described method has been elaborated in the laboratories of thePlzeňbreweries. In the first stage of the two-stage analysis methyl red is titrated with 1.0 N HCl, in the second stage the titration is repeated with sodium fluoride added. Comprehensive tables for various compositions of ALKON A facilitate evaluation of analyses eliminating any calculations.(In Czech, English summary only)
Conveying systems for spent grains.Peer-reviewed article
J. LOOS
Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(4): 79-81 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964013
The article deals with various devices employed in breweries for conveying spent grains which are a waste product of brewing industry, but at the same time an excellent and valuable stock feed. The PONDORF combined mechanical and pneumatic system installed in many breweries abroad is analysed from economical point of view. The author relates the costs of conveying grains to 1 hl of beer and compares two transporting media, viz. air and steam. Description is given of a special pump which has recently been developed at the ZVÚ Works at Hradec Králové for hydraulic grains conveying system. The pump is designed to handle efficiently heterogenous mixtures...
Effect of the substrate area, height of its column and form of vessels on citric acid fermentation.Peer-reviewed article
L. JINDŘICH, V. ZDENĚK
Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(4): 81-86 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964014
Surface fermentation is affected not only by the concentration of nutritive and toxic substances, but also by the amount of substrate. This holds true phosphoric acid and potassium ferrocyanide as main components of molasses mash. With increasing surface area the yields of citric acid are higher, but only in pots, whereas in the Erlenmeyer flasks no difference can be observed. In open fermenting vessels the level of substrate has no effect on the results of the fermentation process. In vessels closed with funnels and cotton wool, as well as in vessels with contracting necks concentration of CO2 is very high the result being inhibition of...
Application of diethyl ester of pyrocarbonic acid to the preservation of beverages.Peer-reviewed article
M. NOVOTNÝ
Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(4): 87-88 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964015
The article analyses the possibilities of applying diethyl ester of pyrocarbonic acid as a preserving additive to beverages, in the first line to lemonades and ciders. The properties of the combination and the results of laboratory test demonstrating its effect on some microorganisms are discussed.(In Czech, English summary only)
