Starting from1979 agenerally binding system based on scientific research works has been introduced in German Democratic Republic for evaluating hop bitter substance. The method can be conveniently applied in agriculture, hop processing plants and brewing industry. The price of hops and hop products depends upon the content of bitter substance ascertained through analyses. In breweries hops and hop products are also dosed in accordance with the content of hop bitter substances, taking into account available utilization rate and required amount of isohumulons in beer.(In Czech, English summary only)

Waste produced in breweries can be efficiently utilized in agriculture.Peer-reviewed article

K. BOČEK

Kvasny Prum. 1979; 25(8): 172-174 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1979025

Waste resulting from brewing processes are not at present properly utilized. The author analyzes the reasons of the existing situation and suggests measures, which should be taken both in brewing industry and on farms to improve collecting and distributing systems. By treating and handling waste appropriately and by selling it breweries can improve their incomes and reduce penalties paid for discharging polluting waste into water courses. Breweries can contribute thus to environment protection. In a number of tables the author specifies the contents of important amino acids, trace elements and vitamins present in liquid brewing yeast, which can be...

Kvasny Prum. 1979; 25(8): 174-177 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1979026

The article deals with the preparation of L-lysine by fermentation and with the substitution of conventional carbon sources with wood hydrolyzate. Propagating and producing activities of some strains of Corynebacterium glutamicum were studied first on agar media with various concentrations of reducing substances and then in liquid media with several saccharides, the presence of which was ascertained by means of chromatographic methods. A series of experiments were carried out with various fermentation media ranging from wood hydrolyzate as an only source of carbon to media containing other components, including acetic acid. The results of research...
