The contents of α- and β- bitter acids from hops harvested in the Czech Republic in 2015 have been evaluated. Samples originated from all growing areas - ®atec, Ú¹tìk and Tr¹ice (77.4 %, 10.8% and 11.9% of the hop garden areas in the Czech Republic). The tested varieties, Saaz (®PÈ), Sládek, Premiant, Agnus, Kazbek and Saaz Late were cultivated on 87.4%, 5.8%, 3.9%, 0.8%, 0.4 and 0.7 of the harvest areas respectively. Samples were analyzed in accordance with the Analytica EBC, method 7.7 (HPLC), all results are given in weight % in dry matter. The average value of α-bitter acids in the Saaz hops (2,15%) was 0.81% (27.4% rel.) and 1.41%...

The tendency to beer gushing can be determined by measuring the pressure growth in the head space after piercing the bottle crown and closing this puncture again. The important parameter is the initial value of the rate of pressure growth (kPa/min), or a pressure value reached after 1 min after crown puncture resealing which is called PG1. Beer value PG1 > 50 kPa is considered to be typical for starting gushing while value above 120 kPa is associated with strong ejection or overflowing beer from the bottle. Gushing could be also induced in beers which showed no gushing even after long periods of...

This article is an introduction of hops harvest working brigade phenomena. In Czechoslovakia there were thousands and thousands of youth who every year worked in hop-gardens. In the paper we can found an answer to question why and how the Czechoslovakian authorities organized such a complicated business. This topic is also focused on several questions about Czech hops production in history.
