Developed of chemical engineering and its role in fermentation industry.Peer-reviewed article

Z. AUNICKÝ

Chemical engineering as a profession was born from the necessity to utilize in industry efficiently and with minimum delay the results of laboratory research works and experiments. One of its specialized branches is biochemical engineering. Knowledge acquired by biochemical engineering and methods used in this branch are applicable in the whole sphere of fermentation industry. To demonstrate the complexity of problems to be solved by biochemical engineers the author takes as an example aerobic fermentation. Such points as the determination of the delivery head for a turbine agitator. Optimum circulation velocity, duration of circulation, effects of the stirrer and vessel diameters, formation of bubbles and foam, specific revolutions of rotary agitators etc. are deals with in detail.
