The article deals with the present development stage of open yeast propagators and with the scale on which they are used in Czechoslovak breweries. The propagation process is described in detail and the advantages of the new system are compared with conventional method based on the usage of large-capacity propagators of classic form. The author pays also attention to a new system introduced to distribute small quantities of yeast cultures. They are sent to customers in special insulated small containers. Breweries can consequently supply pure cultures which they in their turn obtain from the Development and experimental laboratory at Braník.
