Conditions which must be created in industrial fermentation plants to ensure cultivation of mycelial microorganisms producing antibiotics differ substantially from those typical for conventional fermentation process. The article deals with the growth of mycelial suspensions, their hydrodynamic behaviour and with the effects of oxygen supply as well as design of fermenters and agitators upon the formation of secondary metabolic products.
