Mycoflora of barley varieties grown in Czechoslovakiais both by qualitative and qualitative criteria the same as that of foreign varieties. All analyzed samples of 1978 harvest had quite satisfactory microbiologic quality, despite high percentage of kernels contaminated by microscopic fungi belonging to Alternaria, Cladosporium and Epicoccum kinds. All these moulds are of no importance for malting industry. Moulds present on samples in question infested not only husks, but also outer layers of kernels without damaging germs. Disinfectants - even very strong ones had no effects on the composition of microflora. Red colour of kernels is due to the presence of microscopic fungi of Acremonium, Epicoccum and also Fusarium kinds. It can be assumed that substantial infestation by ,,Red mould" after steeping is due to contamination by Fusarium spp. infecting standing crop. No connection between brown tips and presence of moulds could be traced. Apparently the decisive role play atmospheric conditions before harvest.
