A review of present opinions on the significance of gramnegative bacteria contaminating beer production is given. Some microorganisms from the family Enterobacteriaceae including Enterobacter agglomerans, which had not been taken into account in this connection in the past, bacteria from the genus Acetobacter, Zymomonas and recently described strictly anaerobic rods of Pectinatus cerevisiiphilus and cocci from the genera Megasphaera are discussed.
