Enrichment cultures of anaerobic cellulolytic bacteria were cultivated on corn cobs and wooden chips. Mesophilic cultures (37 °C) were kept in suspension of these materials in phosphate buffer (pH 6,8), thermophilic (60 °C) ones in suspension with material medium. The production of volatile fatty acids was optimalized by Rosenbrock's method. The water phase after anaerobic fermentation is a suitable cultivation medium for SCP production by Candida tropicalis.
