The results of batch cultivations showed that distillery wastes (the first and last reactions) can be used as a carbon source for the synthesis of yeast biomass from ethanol. No inhibitory effect of compounds contaminating ethanol on a growth of yeast populations was observed during experiments. Also the biomass quality was not changed. The biomass yield and the biomass composition were the same using the waste fractions of ethanol and synthetic ethanol, resp. Therefore, the waste fractions of ethanol distillation can be used as a substitute for synthetic ethanol.
