Level and composition of sterols of various strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.Peer-reviewed article

In the strain-complex of Saccharomyces cerevisiae the ability of increased ergosterol production was tested. The contents of ergosterol, D 5,7sterols and total sterols changed itself in relation to used strain and cultivation conditions. The best producents are A22 and KBD, attaining cca 2 % ergosterol in dry matter on molasses medium with corn steep. The relation of ergosterol and 24/28/dehydroergosterol on the synthetic Olson-Johnson medium had in the comparison the fermentation on molasses medium with corn steep a twice value.
