New cultivated bitter hop varieties in the Czech Republic.Peer-reviewed article

The significant activity of many years' research work of the cultivation department of the Hop Institute in Žatec resulted nowadays in presentation of two super-alfa crossbreds indicated as "Bor" and "Sládek", which were in the last year admitted for cultivation. During 5 years of repeated tests, the average ck-acid content (KH) attained 10% dry wt., while that of Sládek-variety was 8,7% dry wt. Both varieties offer high yields, are resistent to perenospora and mildew. Technological tests performed in the Research Institute of Brewing and Malting in Prague confirmed propicious technological properties of both new cultivated varieties. Outgoing from the results Of technological tests and judgement of summary profile of both crossbreds, it is possible to recommend them, even under aspect of their bargain price, to brewery public attention.
