Combusting and distilling apparatus for determination of nitrogen.Peer-reviewed article
J. JANÁČEK
Kvasny Prum. 1959; 5(8): 183-184 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1959023
The article deals with a simple and reliable apparatus designed of the determination of nitrogen by the Kjeldahµs macromethod. The method meets all the requirements of the health protection regulations and secures good hygienic conditions in laboratories. The apparatus is very useful for research institutes and testing stations which have to analyse albumins and other compounds containing nitrogen.(In Czech, English summary only)
Quality of malting barley from laid-down crop.Peer-reviewed article
J. LEKE©
Kvasny Prum. 1959; 5(8): 184-187 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1959024
It has been stated that the laid-down crop effects very unfavourably the technological properties of malting barley. Barley from laid-down crop contains in average by 4,75% more albumins and by 4,24% less starch than barley from standing crop. Further disadvantages of laid-down crop are the higher proportion of glumes (their quantity is by 0,49% or even more greater), worse specific weight of grain, lower yield and higher proportion of thin grains. All the factors vital for obtaining hogh quality malt are therefore substantially poorer. Good malt cannot be manufactured even from the 2,8 -2,5 mmgrade which is generally classified as the first choice....
Determination of free amino acids in industrial and refined lactic acids.Peer-reviewed article
J. DYR, V. KRUMPHANZL
Kvasny Prum. 1959; 5(8): 189-192 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1959025
1. Anew method has been developed for isolation of amino acids present in various grades of lactic acid. 2. Chromatographic analyses disclosed the following amino acids: In industrial lactic acid manufactured by works A: aspartic acid, glycine, glutamicacid, alanin, tyrosine, γ-aminobutyric acid, valine, fenylalanin, leucine. Three stains on chromatogramms were not identified. Most likely they can be attributed to lysine, threonine and a substance giving after detection yellow stain. In edible lactic acid manufactured by work B: glycine, glutamic acid, alanin, γ-aminobutyric acid, leucine. Two stains were not identified. One stain was yellow....
