Using starch-containing surrogates in continuous brewing processes.Peer-reviewed article

J. MO©TEK, J. DYR

Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(12): 265-270 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964037

A special laboratory set for continuous decoction mashing has been developed and installed to study the extent to what starch containing surrogates, especially crushed barley, can be used instead of normal material. The results of experiments with various proportions of surrogate are presented in the form of tables and diagrams. No technical or technological problems arise at continuous decoction mashing with surrogate proportions as high as 40 %.(In Czech, English summary only)

Experience with diatomite filters.Peer-reviewed article

A. GRIGORIJEVITS

Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(12): 271-272 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964038

The article specifies principal rules to be followed when employing diatomite beer filters. Various systems of diatomite filters are compared and their merits and demerits evaluated. Results obtained with diatomite in water filtering installations are discussed, too.(In Czech, English summary only)

Level gauge with pneumatic transfer.Peer-reviewed article

R. GRÉE

Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(12): 275-277 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964039

The article deals with a new type of level gauge. The function of the instrument is based on the principle of hydrostatic pressure and bubbling through. The gauge has been developed for measuring the level of vinegar in underground tanks. It is assembled of standard elements manufactured by the ZPA Works and has the form of a 500 X 440 X120 mmpanel.(In Czech, English summary only)

Application of flotation for the separation of fodder yeast from sulphite waste liquor.Peer-reviewed article

Z. RADĚJ

Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(12): 278-279 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964040

Separation of yeasts from fermented mash by flotation has - as can be seen from the experience of some Soviet plants - several advantages. It saves much labour and electric energy, eliminates the first stage of separation and provides favourable conditions for automation. On the other hand there is also one weak point of the method, viz. excessive losses of yeast substance, when the fermentation process is not regular. The design of a typical Soviet flotation machine is described in detail.(In Czech, English summary only)

Long-distance transportation of mineral water in aluminium casks.Peer-reviewed article

J. MARUNA

Kvasny Prum. 1964; 10(12): 280-283 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1964041

The article deals with the results of comparison tests of large-capacity aluminium casks designed for longdistance transportation of mineral water and provided with various protecting coatings. The S 1111 golden enamel, after baking lasting 20 minutes at the temperature of 210 ˚ C, meets all the requirements resulting from the specific chemical and physical properties of mineral water.(In Czech, English summary only)
