The authors describes first the composition of various kinds of sulphite waste liquors, evaluating them from microbiological point of view as nutritive media and taking into account the results of recent research works. Several sorts of yeast suitable for fermenting sulpite liquors have been isolated from natural substrates and their efficiency compared in a series of tests. The best results gave a culture which was identified as Cryptococcus diffluens. It can assimilate a substantially wider range of organic compounds present in liquors than other kinds of yeast which are used at present as e.g. Torulopsis or Candida. Modern fermentors  of Vogelbusch...

The article deals with the gradual development of processing technology which is now used at the SLOVLIK plant at Trenčín and with the experimental research works carried out to study the effects of contamination by yeast microorganisms on the quality of final products. Aeration system is one of vital factors determining both technology and yields.(In Slovak, English summary only)

The authors have carried out a series of experiments to assess the disinfecting efficiency of Septonex which is one of quatenary compounds of ammonium. They have used the following strains of yeast: Bratislava 1, Candida tropicalis, Torulopsis inconspicua. Both the Koch method and determination of phenol coefficient have been applied to evaluate the results. It has been found that the 0.05% concentration kills in 30 minuts all mentioned strains. Several reports published in literature indicate that quaternary ammonium can be also used to inhibit activity of bacteria.(In Slovak, English summary only)
