A new time-saving method has been elaborated for sulphite waste liquor. It is based on adsorption gas chromatography on Porapak Q and requires injection [by means of a Hamilton syringe] of 4µl of distillate obtained from a sample of fermenting substance, into a CHROM 2 chromatograph fitted with a flame-ionization detector. In the first part of the article the authoress describes the design of a simple distilling apparatus which is used to prepare distillate from 10 ml samples.
