Kvasny Prum. 1977; 23(6): 121-124 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1977020
The thin-layer chromatography can be applied to advantage to the determination of fermentable saccharides in sweet wort hopped, wort, and beer. The percentage of individual sacchrarides is found by using spectrophotometry and anthrone reagent. The described method saves time, since the determination of fructose, glucose, saccharose, maltose and maltotriose takes roughly 2 hours. The variation coefficients were as follows: fructose ±6,50%; glucose ±4,27%; saccharose ±5,68%; maltose ±1.68%; maltotriose ±2,73%. The method can be applied also for the determination of glucose oligosaccharides or dextrines its application field is...
Recent results achieved in breeding new varieties of spring barley part I. Central Europe: Czechoslovakia, East Germany, West Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary.Peer-reviewed article
J. LEKEŠ
Kvasny Prum. 1977; 23(6): 124-126 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1977021
The article deals with new varieties of spring barley. Regions in which they are grown, their genealogy and principal agrobiologic properties. From this brief survey it can be seen, that in Central Europe several countries have achieved very remarkable results in improving productivity of barley and its resistance to fungus diseases and to lodging. InCzechoslovakia and East Germany very popular are varieties bred from the "Diamant" variety.(In Czech, English summary only)
New instrument for the determination of resistance of microorganisms to higher temperatures.Peer-reviewed article
J. ŠAVEL, M. PROKOPOVÁ
Kvasny Prum. 1977; 23(6): 127-128 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1977022
The article deals with a new instrument which has been developed for the determination of resistance of microorganisms to higher temperatures. The principal part of the instrument is a metal block with a deep, narrow cavity of rectangular cross section. Microorganisms to be tested are dispersed in agar medium inclosed in a metal flat case which is inserted into the cavity of block. One end of the block is heated to a higher the other to a lower temperature. After heating the agar plate is put into culture medium to find, in what parts of it microorganisms survived.Experience con firms advantages of the described instrument: linearity of temperature...
Utilization by bacteria oxidation products of coal substance.Peer-reviewed article

Kvasny Prum. 1977; 23(6): 129-132 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1977023
The authors have studied conditions under which select kinds of bacteria can utilize oxidation products of the following coal substances: lignite from the Višňová mine, coal slurry and "Kapucín" brown coal. In the first part of research works selected bacteria strains were tested to ascertain their growth capacity and ability to degrade biologically dissolved organic matter. The article deals further with a searching of the optimum concentration of oxidation products giving maximum growth yield as well as an efficient biological degradation with minimum consumption of technological water. Stimulative effects of the starter addition and thinning of...
