The article is focused on a measurement of the discharge of filtration packing in a new laboratory filter. The apparatus for a measurement of the distilled water flow rate through a circle of the filtration packing sample permits the separate water collection flowing through the circumference of the packing. The quantity of this liquid depends on the packing type and other factors and can be as high as 20 % of the filtrates by the packing used for the final beer filtration.(In Czech, English summary only)

Yeasts Saccharomyces cerevisiae SL 100 were immobilized in calcium alginate gel. Continuous alcohol fermentation was carried out in different types of columns at dilution rates ranging from 1,0 do 4,4 h-1. The best results were obtained in fermentores situated in a leaning position and in cascade of bioreactors. The maximum productivity was about 172 g ethanol per litre of medium and hour.(In Czech, English summary only)

Critical study of the aeration capacity (k1a) measurement methods for fermentors. I.: Qualitative analysis of k1a measurement errors and steady-state methods.Peer-reviewed article

The design of bioreactors for aerobic fermentation is usually based upon the requirement of sufficient air feed to the fermentation medium. In the experimental determinations of k1a values, from which the necessary oxygen flowrate is calculated, not only such methods, which were already proved to yield erroreous results with up to hundreds of percent errors, are used, but, unfortunately new methods are published which are equally unsuitable. When these erroreous k1a values are substituted in the working equations, absurd conclusions are reached on the effect of working parameters on the k1a value (e.g. some methods...
