Study evaluated a segregating population of doubled-haploid lines and malting varieties for seed vigour tested at a low temperature of 10°C and under drought stress of -0.2 MPa and -0.5 MPa. The vigour of the dihaploid lines from six variants (3 years × 2 localities) was compared with four germination parameters obtained under the optimum thermal and moisture conditions The vigour of seeds of four spring varieties of malting barley and their mutual 12 combinations was assessed in two variants (1 year × 2 locations). Higher precipitation sums in June and July, i.e. shortly before harvest, were reflected in a decreased vigour (r = -0.777 and r = -0.721)....

As shown in the previous articles of this series, hydrogen is the most suitable choice as a substitution for helium as a carrier gas in gas chromatography. This paper addresses some specifics concerning the use of hydrogen as carrier gas in different techniques of sample introduction on chromatographic column. Attention is also focused on the performance and sensitivity of different types of gas chromatographic detectors, especially in brewing analysis. As shown in the previous articles of this series, hydrogen is the most suitable choice as a substitution for helium as a carrier gas in gas chromatography. Kvasny Prum. 2013; 59(9): 246-257 | DOI: 10.18832/kp2013025
This survey is focused on the techniques of detection of wild yeasts in brewery laboratory. The experimental part of the work deals with the ability of 19 strains of culture and wild yeasts to grow on wort, hopped-wort and lysine agar, and on media containing monoiodacetic acid, crystal violet and copper sulphate. Growth of yeasts on WLN agar, on MYGP agar with actidione and on MYGP agar at 37°C was also monitored. Photographs of representative colonies of yeast strains on various agar media are presented. The practical usefulness of the media in brewery laboratory was evaluated. This survey is focused on the techniques of detection of wild yeasts in...

The paper discusses the calculation of original wort extract and other extract by Balling's formula. Currently the Balling's formula is used incorrectly for beer-mixed drinks, because the result is influenced by sugars that are brought to beer-mixed drink by syrup after fermentation. Such a use of Balling's formula restricts the quality control of beer-mix drink, but also incorrectly calculates the amount of excise tax of these drinks. The paper proposes modification of Balling's formula so it can calculate only the extract, which is brought to beer-mixed drink by beerThe paper discusses the calculation of original wort extract and other extract by...
