Untightness of distilling, refining and dehydrating installations.Peer-reviewed article

B. MELICHAR

Outflow rates of vapors leaking from distillation, refining and dewatering apparatus were calculated to be significant. A considerable amount of vapors leaks through a relatively small outflow area. Leakage can be reliably detected by compressed air; test with the heating steam is not always exact. Therefore, it is recommended that tightness of all devices in distilleries should be frequently tested with compressed air, especially in places with higher detected losses of ethanol.
