Some problems of industrial production of microbial proteins from petrochemical raw materials.Peer-reviewed article

F. ŠTROS, M. ROSA

Development of industry producing microbial proteins by processing petrochemicals is far from being as rapid as was predicted and expected several years ago. InJapanthe production of yeast from isolated n-alkanes is prohibited because of objections of medical institutions. Similar situation is inItaly. Increasing prices of petrochemical raw materials and steadily rising capital investments into new works make in production less attractive and slow down its development in many countries. Quite different is the situation inUSSR, where there are at least three big works manufacturing yeast from isolated n-alkanes. Each of them has capacity exceeding 100 000 t per annum. InCzechoslovakiathe production of yeast proteins from synthetic alcohol is limited up to 1980 by the shortage of ethanol.
