Waste produced in breweries can be efficiently utilized in agriculture.Peer-reviewed article

K. BOČEK

Waste resulting from brewing processes are not at present properly utilized. The author analyzes the reasons of the existing situation and suggests measures, which should be taken both in brewing industry and on farms to improve collecting and distributing systems. By treating and handling waste appropriately and by selling it breweries can improve their incomes and reduce penalties paid for discharging polluting waste into water courses. Breweries can contribute thus to environment protection. In a number of tables the author specifies the contents of important amino acids, trace elements and vitamins present in liquid brewing yeast, which can be used on farms as a valuable feed for cattle and hogs. The nutritive value of yeast is compared with that of several other sorts of feed. The article deals also in detail with yeast conservation with propionic acid, with advantages of this method over conventional ones and with the utilization of conserved yeast on hog breeding farms.
