The nystatin biosynthesis with the strain Streptomyces noursei using hydrolyzates of some starch raw materials or wastes from the production of maize and wheat has been studied on a laboratory scale in shake flasks. The results were compared with those obtained with glucose as a carbon and energy source. The comparison proved that despite of a lower nystatin yield observed with those nontraditional carbon substrates this procedure could be preferred from the economical standpoint (price relation between the hydrolyzate of maize starch and glucose).
