The quality of barley grown inSouth Moraviadeteriorated several years ago and now it does not meet the requirements of malting industry. The workers of industry and its research institute decided to take measures to improve the situation. Higher price is now paid for good malting barley as an incentive for cooperative and state-owned farms, quality of crop is systematically checked before and after harvest and best sorts and strains are being gradually selected. Some remarks to problems related to new raw materials, i.e. products of petrochemical industry and hydrolysates of lignocelluloses mass, which are to be used for making food proteins.
