In 1973 -1975 aseries of field tests was carried out to study the effects of spring barley yields upon the protein percentage in its corns. All tests were limited to one of the maize growing regions with medium heavy brown soil with neutral reaction, medium high content of absorbable P and low concentracion of absorbable K. Four different varieties of barley were selected, sown silage maize, maintaining the seeding rate of 4,5 million germinating seeds per1 haand fertilized as follows : N ( basic component ) - 0, 50, 75 and100 kgper1 ha, other fertillizers in a constant proportion to N, i. e. N : P : K = 1 : 0,63 : 1,66. No significant relation...
Aplication of Gas Chromatography for the Determination of Formic and Acetic Acids in Sulphite Spent Liquor and Fermentation Media.Peer-reviewed article
M. ©ESTÁKOVÁ
Kvasny Prum. 1978; 24(7): 149-152 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1978024
A new gas chromatography method has been elaborated for quantitative determination of volatile organic acids present in sulphite spent liquor and fermentation media. The metod is based on the so-called "head space"technique and transformation of free and bound formic and acetic acids at 55 ºC into their ethylesters, which are then partitioned on Chrom 4-1 with FID in2,5 m-3,0 mmglass column containing 20% PEG 400 on Chromosorb W( 60-80 mesh) at 80ºC. The coefficients of variation for the reproducibility of the method are 6,74% for formic acid, 5,82 for % acetic acid. Analyses of 41 samples of sulphite spent liquor of Czechoslovak and foreign...
Evaluating the Quality of Yeast Inoculum Used in Plants Producing Fodder Yeast Protein.Peer-reviewed article

Kvasny Prum. 1978; 24(7): 153-155 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1978025
The article deals with a method permitting to evaluate the viability of cold-stored yeast cultures kept for inoculation. The vitality of yeast cultures was determined by applying both fermentation and oximetritc methots. The results indicate, that if the yeast inoculum is stored at 5 + ºC it maintains its partial viability even after 30 dyes, bul full activity can be expected only if the storage period is no longer than must not be stored longer than 5 days.(In Czech, English summary only)
Experiance on the Application of Gas Cromatography in Distilling Industry.Peer-reviewed article
A. VÁVROVÁ
Kvasny Prum. 1978; 24(7): 156-157 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1978026
A CHROM III gas chromatograph, supplied by Laboratorní přístroje N.C., has been modified for analyses of alkohols, alcohol fractions and aromatic components of wine and fruit distillates. It was necessary to change the form of the column, improve the sensitivity of detector and partitioning accuracy. The author specialies the parameters of the modified instrument.(In Czech, English summary only)
Spherical Fermentor CHEMAP- 50 Liter.Peer-reviewed article
V. MATĚJŮ, P. KUJAN
Kvasny Prum. 1978; 24(7): 158-160 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1978027
The article deals with the description of the new type of a fermentor. The stainless steel bioreactor blanket is equipped with the EFFIGAS stirrer system with selfsuction property (0-3000 rpm), the FUNDAFON mechnical defoamer (2800 rpm), pH-electrode, O2-electrode, the FONDALUX instrument for the determination of dry matter, and with the heating (cooling). Air flow can be adjusted ether constant or automatically controlled to be dissolved oxygen value constant in medium. Values of temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen can be controlled automatically. Measured variables are registered by a 6-point recorder. The operation experience is briefly...
