Results of comprehensive experiments, which have been carried out with abraded barley, characterized by higher protein content, show that slight mechanical damage caused to corns by abrasion has favourable effects upon the modification speed and quality of malt. By combining abrasion with addition of a small amount of gibberellic acid positive effects can be intensified, so that after 3-4 days of germination malt can be produced of satisfactory quality, i. e. of quality comparable with that of malt produced from reference samples of unabraded barley (Table 2). Organoleptic properties of beer brewed from abraded barley after malting lasting only 4 days...

In 1977 fifteen varieties of barley grown on four different plots after two different forecrops were analyzed to study interrelation of quality indices of barley and malt. It has been found that the viscosity of barley extract has no relation to malting properties of barley and malt quality. Wettability is an important factor and should be determined. Modification degree of malt is - with a reasonable accuracy - indicate by the viscosity of congress wort. Estimation of expected atenuation degree can be based on the amount for fermentable substances and modification degree. The article deals also with the effects genetic factors (variety) and non-genetic...
Automatic control of alcohol distillation and rectification processes.Peer-reviewed article
J. KUMIDER
Kvasny Prum. 1980; 26(2): 33-39 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1980007
The workers of the RaD department of Polmos distillery at Konin in Polandhave designed and built - after comprehensive research works and experiments - an automatic system for controlling alcohol distillation and rectification processes. As a new invention the system has been already patented. The article deals with the principles of the system and functions of individual measuring instruments and regulating devices. Automation brings many advantages some of which are measurable and can be expressed by economic indices. To this group belong: 22 % increase of yield per 1 m2 of the rectification column section area, quick return of capital...
