Development of brewing and malting industries in Slovakia.Peer-reviewed article

G. BEZÁK

Kvasny Prum. 1966; 12(3): 49-51 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1966009

The author outlines the scale of capital investments allocated for the development of brewing and malting industries inSlovakiaand compares statistical data of the production and consumption of beer before the World Ware II and in recent years. The plans of further development envisage in 1970 per capitum consumption as high as121 lper year. The principal phases of the development and its specific features are discussed.(In Slovak, English summary only)

Effect of gibberellic acid on the germination of barley.Peer-reviewed article

V. KAREL

Kvasny Prum. 1966; 12(3): 52-55 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1966010

The article deals with the results of experimental research works on the effect of gibberellic acid upon the shares of simple saccharides and polyphenol substances in the malt extract. The analyses failed to show any difference in the composition of tannins present in the GA eluates, which could effect the quality of the product. The proportion of polyphenol substances in the mash obtained through decoction mashing was higher. These polyphenols are adsorbed by nylon 66 and their presence is shown in hydrolisis with HCl by red colouring. The best results were obtained with spraying barley in the very first stage of germination with a solution of GA3....

Economic side of trapping CO2 in breweries.Peer-reviewed article

J. LOOS

Kvasny Prum. 1966; 12(3): 56-59 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1966011

The article deals with some problems of trapping CO2 produced by fermentation processes in breweries, as well as with the possibilities of its utilization both at breweries and in other branches of industry. Using articles published recently in technical literature as a source of information the author describes installations required for holding and liquerfying CO2. Beside units already in service some new projects are mentioned, too. The economical side of the problem is thoroughly analysed.(In Czech, English summary only)

Economical defoaming method for plants making feed and baker9s yeast.Peer-reviewed article

F. ŠTROS, R. ZÁBOJNÍK, Z. ČÁSLAVSKÝ

Kvasny Prum. 1966; 12(3): 63-65 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1966012

The article deals with the nature of processes typical for aerobic fermentation and resulting in an intensive generation of foam, as well as with various conventional defoaming methods. The results of experimental research works, which have been recently carried out, indicate that defoaming costs can be substantially reduced by using modern silicone defoamers or emulsions of defoaming oils and by installing in plants making feed or bakery yeast automatic dispensing devices metering the mentioned defoamers.(In Czech, English summary only)

Tank trucks serve for supplying soda water plants with CO2.Peer-reviewed article

V. HUNEŠ

Kvasny Prum. 1966; 12(3): 66-68 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1966013

Transport of CO2 to soda water plants in special tank trucks is both efficient and economical, since this system permits to dispose of pressure bottles requiring time and labour consuming handling, it is cheaper than conventional methods, very safe and facilitates very accurate measurements of consumption. Capital investments required to build and equip a station enabling bulk transport will be repaid at plants consuming 220 tons of CO2 per year in 13 months.(In Czech, English summary only)
