The article deals with new methods which have been developed to classify the quality of barley and mat better than methods so far used. New methods are based on research works of Chapon, Kretschmer, Hartong and Narziss. The authors maintain that the most reliable criteria are those calculated from several analytic attributes which are related to one another and express one of the quality factors. New methods applied do Czechoslovak brewing barley and malt confirm  their  excellent quality ensuring them exceptional position in Europe.(In Czech, English summary only)

Application of the modified Nakagawa medium for detection and determination of bacterial contaminants in beer..Peer-reviewed article

J. ©AVEL

Kvasny Prum. 1973; 19(5): 101-104 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1973007

The authors outlined how to prepare a simple, semisolid medium which can be used conveniently for detecting and determining lactic bacteria in beer and brewing semiproducts. The medium detects very reliably the presence of all the representatives of the Lactobacillus kind, but fails to give the same accurate results as to Pediococcus kind. The new medium is essentially a modification of the well know Nakagawa medium. It can be easily prepared in any laboratory and does not require cultivation under anaerobic conditions. Casein hydrolysate "Sevac" can be used as a suitable growth - regulating substance. The temperature during the cultivation period...
