Asbestos and cellulose formed a material from which filter plates for pressure filtration were made. These filter plates were used in the filtration of beer, wine, and other non-alcoholic beverages. With respect to the fact that asbestos has cancerogenic effect, other materials of suitable properties are sought at present. British establishment of Carlson, which belongs to the concern APV, develops series of the plates that are unobjectionable from the hygienic standpoint. In addition, these plates have the same filtration properties as those from asbestos. These plates work on the principle of deep filtration. The particles are captured in the plate...

F. MALÍK, P. PORUBSKÝ, E. MINÁRIK

Kvasny Prum. 1984; 30(10): 222-225 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1984043

The presented paper deals with fermentation activity tests of 6 foreign and 2 Czechoslovak active dry wine yeast preparations. The most complete fermentation in an 104 h "batch" fermentation in must (S0 = 17,1 g.100 ml-1,80,11 % of present sugar) could be achieved with the preparation Oenoferm (Erbslöh Co. D-Geisenheim), the highest ethanol concentration with the preparations oenoferm and Blastosel kappa (Chimici-perdomini spA I-Verona) - 5,73 and 5,19 vol. % respectively The highest product yield coefficients in the mentioned time were registered by Blastosel VS (YP/S = 0,333) and Oenoferm (YP/S = 0,330)....

Changes in respiration activity and energetics of Candida utilis during long-term starvation.Peer-reviewed article

J. PÁCA

Kvasny Prum. 1984; 30(10): 225-227 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1984044

Changes in catabolic activity of exogenous and endogenous metabolism were studied with respect to changes in the intracellular level of adenine nucleotides and pyruvate during long-term yeast starvation at low temperature.(In Czech, English summary only)

Analysis of gas-phase recycle from the standpoint of balance in production of microorganisms.Peer-reviewed article

K. LÍVANSKÝ

Kvasny Prum. 1984; 30(10): 227-232 | DOI: 10.18832/kp1984045

The effect of gas-phase recycle on partial pressures of dissolved gases in the culture medium and on the conversion of the gas substrate in the culture vessel can be described using formulae that author derived from balance equations. The derived formulae are applied to autotroph conditions of the culture of Chlorella sp. K in the tube apparatur.(In Czech, English summary only)
