The author has developed polyethylene stoppers for bottles with sparkling wine which combine strength with sufficient elasticity enabling easy adjustment to varying diamaters of bottlenecks. The sealing properties of new stoppers are as good as those of cork ones provided the bottles are stored in horizontal position. The dimensions of new polyethylene stoppers are quite stable and there is no tendency to shrinkage. In its definite form the stopper has an inner sex-pointed reinforcing brace and resists without collapsing even very high pressures.
